How to Care for Your Vintage Clothing - Rad Bonnie's Vintage

How to Care for Your Vintage Clothing

Vintage pieces are special — they’ve lasted this long for a reason. With a little love, they'll stay in your closet for decades more.

Here are 5 easy tips to keep your vintage looking rad:

1. Always read the tag (if it’s there)
Many vintage pieces are delicate or made with materials that don’t do well in a regular wash.

2. Hand wash or use a mesh bag
Gentle cycle + cold water = your best friends. Use a garment bag for extra protection.

3. Skip the dryer
Air dry whenever possible. Heat can ruin fabric, shrink fits, and melt old trims or glue.

4. Steam, don’t iron
Steaming is gentler on old fabrics and helps avoid scorching or shine marks.

5. Store with care
Hang heavier items, fold knits and delicates. And avoid wire hangers (Bonnie would approve).

Taking care of vintage means respecting the past and keeping it in rotation for the future.
